A Prairie Day

I feel like I live on a prairie today,
The gentle breezes sweep and sway,
The sky is true and oh so blue.
But horizon cloud gives us clue,
That wat’ring rain is on it’s way
To moisten up our patch of clay.
A horse nickered at my advance,
And observed to see if she could by chance
Nick a treat from behind my back.
But though she didn’t cop a whack,
I made sure she failed the deed
Until I let her chubby lips succeed.
She nuzzled my hand when carrot was spent
And then her colossal head she bent
And ate the grass from at my feet
That evidently tasted sweet.
She chattered in her equine way
But I’m not sure what she meant to say
For I can’t speak her native tongue.
The air ‘round about us rung
With a sweet concerto of song.
So rich I wished to sing along
With the serenading bird.
With that I left the little equine herd
And began the walk along the road,
Back towards our little abode.
My had was damp and soft upon my brow
When I called “g’day” to a resting cow.
My blunnies crunched on the gravel lane,
The sky’s breath blew on my sweaty mane
And made me fell like a settler’s child
Who bravely existed in the frontier wilds.
But then reality checked my mind
And brought me back to human kind.
And the feeling filled my little heart,
The feeling I noted at the start.
I felt like I lived on the prairie today,
The breeze around did sweep and sway.
