Shalom Station 5

Yes, I'm still alive!
Had an awesome few days out of action! Loved seeing all the flooding. You know, when I see something so powerful and grand, even though it might be destructive, it still reminds me of God's power and it just thrills me. I guess I'm just a sucker for adrenaline! lol
And now I'm back with another, though short, instalment of Shalom Station. I had finished all I had written and was going to leave it here but I was challenged by a dear friend of mine to keep writing so you can thank her for anything you read from now on.
Anyway, here it is... Shalom Station 5!

Emily bounded down the stairs and kissed Kate squarely on the cheek and gave Jim a shy hug. The three boys ran down and promptly started a game of chasey around the lounges which Jim had to quickly put to a stop before the tidy house became chaotic. He looked at Kate and she smiled and nodded.
Lottie and Elyss trotted down and calmly too their places on the lounge. The rest of the children gathered around as Jim picked up his bible and sat down beside Elyss. Elyss moved closer to Lottie to leave a gap between her and Jim but as worship went on, the gap and the awkwardness lessoned and lessoned until she was sitting quite comfortably next to Jim and reading his bible with him. Kate’s heart sang as she witnessed this miracle.
After breakfast, Jim stood up. “Well young men. Aunty Kate cooked the breakfast, who do you think should do the dishes?”
The boys were quick to call out, “The girls!” and the girls were adamant that the boys should do it. Quite a little disagreement ensued until Jim put a halt to it.
“Boys, I think we owe it to the girls to help clean up. It’s one of the best ways of showing our thanks. Let’s say that from now on the girls cook and us boys clean up.” After some too-ing and fro-ing but finally the boys agreed to help and soon the kitchen was noisy with laughter. The boys washed and dried the dishes and the girls put the left-overs away and wiped the table. Soon the room was spick and span and Jim led the boys outside to their first glimpse of the farm.
“Ok girls,” Kate said when they had gone. “Let’s get our jobs done this morning and then we can do something fun this afternoon ok?” The girls agreed. “Good, seeing as we all agree, let’s do some jobs and some school work and then we can cook lunch. I did most of the jobs yesterday so we’ll just do a few. Lottie, can you please clean the bathroom that you kids have been using, Elyss, I’ll get you to sweep the dining room and Emily, I’ll grab you the vacuum cleaner and you can do the lounge-room for me.”
The girls were soon busy with their jobs and Kate breathed a sigh of relief as she saw Lottie going grudgingly but without complaint to her task. This hurdle had not been one that she had been looking forward to. Now it had been passed, Kate felt that perhaps these next few weeks could be a success.
The girls were all surprisingly good students and they all seemed to enjoy their schoolwork although Emily seemed eager to get through it and be off to something more exciting. For Lottie it was a chance to display her knowledge and to Elyss it was a familiar face in this alien environment.
While they worked, Kate started the lunch preparation and also breakfast for the next day. When the girls finished, they helped her get everything ready and when the boys came in they were just putting everything on the table.
“Mmm, smells good.” Jim commented. Schane’s fingers reached for a carrot stick from the salad.
“Oh no you don’t.” Kate said, pretending to smack his hands. “You boys all go and get washed up first, then we can eat.”
