The First Love Story {And How to Find the Perfect Partner}

It was a beautiful day. The sky was that deep blue colour of a clear, sunny day and the blueness reflected off an emerald green world, freshly bathed in a silvery, sparkling dew. Cheerful strains from the colorful bird-world floated down through lofty trees and filtered between lightly slung vines. A gentle breeze wafted a subtle, sweet perfume through the forest. A man sat beside a rippelling creek, a fluggy little dog curled up curled up in his lap. He was so deep in thought as he stroaked the soft creature that he hardly noticed the busy little brit perched on his shoulder, nibbling his ear.

Life on earth was young, so young that it had scarcely begun. The animals grazed peacefully together and the air bore the crispness of creation. Yesterday, Abba had introduced his son to His creation: the animals of had won Adam’s affection immediately. Then, the great ball of fire: the greater light set in the west and a silvery light washed the world in it’s glow. Abba told Adam that this was the time He had called “night”. Adam lay, totally relazed on the soft grass, re-thinking through the events of the day. He smiled to himself in the half-darkness as he thought of the animals, he wondered where they had all bedded down for the “night”. The two “dogs” were snuggled together at his feet, he could hear the two horses and two cows grazing in a feild nearby and he was pretty sure he had spotted two colorful macaws percing in a giant redwood. Suddenly out of Adam’s musings a single thought jumped at him and quick as a wink he seized it. Two. Two dogs, two horses, two macaws, two cows, two chimpanzees, two black-headed pythons, two salmon two grey nurse shakrds. Two of everything. Two of everything but me. He thought, Why?

And now it was morning. Adam thought Abba had left him after their early morning walk in the garden, but He was still there - invisible. Slowly the warm sunshine crept into Adam’s body and eventualy he was sound asleep.

And he slept “a deep sleep”.

Ok, you know the rest of the story:

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Did God make a mistake in His creation? Did He forget something? No. God doesn’t just made mistakes. Everything our Father does is for a specifc purpose. Everything.

Being young and single, I have many young and single and not-so-young and single friends. Sometimes it seems I see their faith and contentment in Christ waver and they begin to show symptoms of the disease we call desperate. (And I might as well be honest and admit that I’m tempted to feel the same way sometimes.) But right here in the first few chapters of God's Love Letter, we find the equation to finding the perfect life-partner imbedded in the very first love-story. Think with me. Adam realizes his need; God puts within him the desire, the longing for a companion.
"It is not good that man should be alone: I will make him an help meet for him."
Mrs White comments,
"Man was not made to dwell in solitude; he was to be a social being...Even communion with Angels could no have satisfied his desire for sympathy and companionship." (PP45)
True love, and the longing for it is a God-given gift. This bit we have no problem with. The desire is still strong within us but Satan has somehow twisted it and desecrated it until one would hardly recognize it as a beautiful treasure from our Father. I'm not sure if Adam talked to God about his longings, but in His perfect time God prepares to present to Adam the most wonderful gift He had planned for him. And then, catch this everyone this is amazing: Adam lay down and went to sleep. He went to sleep! He left his future, his desires, his life in the hands of the Omnipotent One and slept the peaceful and deep sleep of one who has surrendered everything to God. While he was asleep, God took a rib from His side and made the Woman, then when all was ready, tapped Adam on the shoulder and presents His beautiful gift, Adam's precious bride.

When will we all learn to rest entirely in the Father's hands, believing that somewhere not op far away, He is creating and fashioning the perfect partner to suit all our peculiarities and wonderfulisms? We have seen so many times how marvelous a match-maker He is and yet so often we insist on believing that we know better and head off down our own world. Why? What will it take?

Now, let's do a bit of a rewind.

Cautiously the beautiful young woman peeked through the lucious vines. She sniffed the crisp, fragrant air and wiggled her bare toes in the soft carpet of green grass for the first time. A bell-like ringing just above her head made her look quickly around. She uttered an exclamation of admiration as she caught sight of a exuberantly singing robin perched nearby. Scores of sleek, healthy animals went about their private business glancing at the girl in passing. No fear or aggression gleamed in their eyes, “and the lion lay down with the lamb”. A slight rustle to her left attracted her attention and her gentle brown eyes opened wide at what she saw. Abba was keeling down on the ground conversing with a tall, powerful man who appeared to have just woken up. The man rubbed his eyes and looked around as Abba spoke and gestured with his hand toward the place where the girl was hidden. She drew back out of site and remained silent until Abba rested his hand gently on her shoulder. “Come, my daughter.” He said, drawing her arm gently through His. “Come and meet the man I created for you and you for him. You are his help-meet, his comforter. Love him and care for him. Follow and heed him. And may your loyalty to him be second only to your loyalty to Me.” Eve (we will call her that because we know how the story ends) felt her heart thrill as Abba looked deep into her eyes with a look of just tender love that made her just want to throw her arms around Him. “Remember Daughter: you were Mine first and you will be forever Mine. I love you.” And so saying Abba lead her to to where Adam was standing and placing her hand into his, performed the first marriage in that perfect garden.

For each of us girl’s, our Father has a plan. His plan always involves a Man: Himself. God is to be our ‘first husband’.
“A woman’s heart should be so hid in God that a man has to seek Him to find her.”
Once we are so inbedded in the shelter of His love, and living His life here on earth, this is when we are fit to be granted, by His discretion, the privilege of becoming ‘help-meet’.

Sometimes I have lamented that “a christian girl’s life is one of waiting for dreams to come true.” Maybe yes, but how profitable can we make our time of waiting? Life is full of lessons to be learned and could there be a better time to learn them then now?

So instead of sitting around day-dreaming and wishing, look for a need and fill it. Better your self continuously and pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare you to become perfect for the man that God has in mind for you. Keep your eyes on Christ, on your first Husband and ask to be kept from worldly lusts and distractions and above all: patience my friend.
