Book of Wisdom: Proverbs 5:1-6
My son, attend unto my wisdom...that thy lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb...but her end is bitter as wormwood....her feet go down to death....her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. (Verses taken from Proverbs 5:1-6)
A strange woman. Even the name it's self sounds like temptation. It sounds mysterious, enticing, scary, wrong, fun and all sorts of other things. Who is this strange woman? It depends. It could literally mean a seductive woman, or it could be that secret sin that is cherished in my life - wrong friends, wrong thoughts, wrong media, wrong choices. For the sake of this exercise, she shall be 'temptation.'
Temptation always seems sweet when you are tempted. Otherwise it wouldn't be a temptation. But it's our job to be in tune with God so that we can recognise temptation when it is dangled in front of us and firmly and bravely say no. It's the only safe course to take. Who knows where the path of "the strange woman" will take us after we take the first step. "Thou canst not know them."
Be on guard today and "let your eyes look right on" (Prov 4:25) the path of life.
