Letters. Ok, I guess I'll have to give you that. Mine has 6: K. A. T. L. Y. N.
A hyphen? Cool. But I guess you all know that that's not really what I'm talking about right? Good. Just checking.
What I mean is, what do people think of when they think of or say your name?
I guess that's a pretty solemn thought that I've just thrown out there. I know it was for me anyway. I mean, what are you known for?
When you think of Steve Jobs what comes to mind? That ______ guy who came up with Macs. (I left that blank for the differences in opinion I know exist between my friends.
Bill Gates? Microsoft.
Ned Kelly? Bush ranger. Yeah...Nah...
Kevin Rudd? Barack Obama? Julia Gillard? Our leaders. Past. Present. Good. Bad.
Alan John Miller? Ok, you might not be familiar with that name but Alan is a former IT specialist who now claims to be Jesus.
What about Henry VIII? That was the guy who had six wives. Yeah. How'd you like to be famous for that? Or amazing computer programming? Or being rich? Or claiming to be Jesus? Not thanks!
What about Florence Nightingale? The Lady with the Lamp. I recon she left behind a pretty good legacy.
Sarah? She laughed. Yeah, having faith in God's promises is important. You never know, you could be famous for laughing at God. Probably not the most amazing thing to be known for.
Abraham? Abraham is known for his great faith. Enoch is known for translation and a perfect life. The woman who had the issue of blood had amazing faith and determination too. Esther was brave, Solomon was wise (and had hundreds of wives) such diverse things that humankind remembers people by.
What about you? What will people remember you for?
I can't tell what people say about me. I can't analyze it and figure out what parts of my behaviour I need to update. But I can slowly and patiently, with God's help, build and refine my character. Moment by moment, trial by trial, victory by victory. God is waiting to set to work on you and He's promised that He is faithful to complete the huge task that He undertook when He created you.
Why not cooperate with Him and make something out of your life worthy of being known for? Don't worry about being rich, inventing something, creating something, or doing something out of the ordinary. Just concentrate on having a lovely character. Love. Patience. Joy. Peace. Kindness. Goodness. Faith. Gentleness. Selfcontrol. The
Fruit of the Spirit of God!
