A Midnight Peregrination

Carefully and stealthily they chose each step. Their feet bare and toes splayed to muffle the footfall. Like bush-raised fairies they floated across the paddock. Darkness shrouded the great Australian land, dispelled only by a slight moon drop that transformed rather normal trees into shivery, dancing shadows calculated to make the heart race on it’s way. But the four wood-nymphs were not frightened. They continued steadily through the shadows and patches of moonlight, one objective only foremost in their minds.
A soft moonlight highlighted their girlish forms as they silently tracked their prey. Up the hill, across the rocky plateau and down the other side they tip-toed being careful not to reveal their presence. In the shadow of an ancient haystack they stood for a moment eyeing their quarry moving quietly in the valley below.
Reassembling, they stepped from the shadows to follow the (terribly unromantic) barbed wire fence to it’s limits. Tripping along their foot-steps muted and voices silent, the only sounds were soft breathing and the glorious symphony called ‘Night’.
Suddenly, a muted but distinct “OUCH” rent the air like the javelin that Saul hurled at David so many years ago. A few giggles accompanied it and then silence was restored.
At last the predetors stood atop a hill, surveying the valley before them. A single light flickered and flashed intermittantly, revealing the whereabouts of their prey all too well. Finally soft whispers were allowed. “That horrible fence!” One of the fairies complained, “I turned too soon and landed smack-bang in the barbed wire. And I’ve scratches to prove it.”
So, the stalkers revealed themselves to be, not fairies or wood-nymphs, but four regular human girls out on an exciting midnight peregrination and adventure!
