The Girls From The Bush

The Girls From The Bush
Kate Bailey 29/01/2013

At home our life is full of chores.
We gotta cook the grub and mop the floors.
Our life is run by the school ‘o’ air.
But now we’re gonna let down our hair!

Between the trials of daily life,
Drought and flood and crops in strife.
Ely draws and Katie tries to sew,
And Seaghdha kneads the rising dough.

Then the jobs are dusted and done,
The dogs have had their run
And we can head to town.
The dogs in the back and the foot goes down.

RM jeans and Driza coat,
Akubra hats - a cause to gloat.
Ariat boots and hair in braids,
Belts all buckled we’re ready to raid.

Down the dusty road we roar,
Glimpsing gravel through the floor.
Nothing daunts our trusty ute,
Our Cruiser runs like something beaut.

Blasting out the Kernagahn,
“Come on, put ‘er on again!”
‘Spirit of the Bush’ and ‘The Outback Club’
We come rattling out the scrub.

We switch our ute for a brumby wild,
Bucking bronco, crazy ride.
Hanging on for our precious life,
Stockwhips swinging like a knife.

The horse is caught and calm,
His body relaxes ‘neath my palm.
Back in the ute we scramble and climb,
Crank up the music, it’s party time!

The townites see our cloud of smoke n dust,
“Someday that ute’s a-gonna bust!”
“Look out town, the girls have come.”
We’re swooping down, ready for fun.

We’re the girls from the bush and we’re back in town.
With the dogs in the back and the foot goes down.
Well ya better look out for we get about.
We’re the girls from the bush, and ya betta look out.
