The Katie Journey - Day Five

11/02/13

Catching Katie was so easy today! I did that, and put her head-collar on all by myself today! I had her in the small yard and it took me two goes to get the head-collar on but it was so easy and quick compared to any preceding days!
Once I had Katie caught and had helped with the other horses, I spent time bonding with her. I brushed her with the body-brush and brushed her mane. I wasn't game enough to do her tail yet.
When I let Katie go, She lead through the little gate really well and as I let her go, I took off the head-collar and patted her for a bit and then I walked away from her. This teaches her not to run away from me when I let her go.
After we let all the horses go, we gave them some hay and just sat and watched them and chatted. one thing we talked about was their colour. Before the rain, when the grass was dead, their colour was really washed out. Since the grass has come back, it has more protein in it and the horses have gone darker.
