Day four and already I can see a difference although if I contemplate negatively long enough on it I could manage to get depressed. But I won't. These things take time. If I can see positive improvement after four days thats great, but I need the remember to go slow and not expect her to go any faster then she is comfortable with.
Getting the brumbies into the yards was easy today. They pretty much ran straight in.
"If they're going in like that, we must be doing something right." Jennie said.
First we put Lucky Star in the small yard and Hannah went in there to work with her. Josh caught Thunderbolt and had the lead-rope around his neck but he managed to get loose and so we put him out into another yard for Josh to work with him and that left me and Katie.
I slowly approached her and she let me touch her. Then Jennie helped me catch her. We put her in a corner and while Jennie blocked from behind, I walked up to her shoulder and put the lead-rope around her neck. I talked to her for a while and then, after one futile attempt, I got the head-collar on her. She took off with the lead-rope still hanging around her next and dangling between her hooves. She didn't seem worried a bit - awesome! I don't want her shy of things around her feet.
Once I had her caught again, it took me a while to get close with the body brush but when I did, I had a good time working with her and brushing her both sides and I also did her mane.
When Jennie was available, we tied her up and with Jennie standing in front, I reached for her tail and brushed it out. She was totally relaxed through all of this and it was only when Jennie was showing me how far down to cut it that she thought about kicking. I had a go but then Jennie decided that she would rather get kicked then me so she snipped it off. Done.
I put away her gear and then lead her out of the yards to where Thunderbolt was and let her go. She was leading really really well! So proud of her!
