Have you ever tried playing a piano with one sticky key? Any key, any note. If it’s missing it can be terribly disconcerting, not to mention it can ruin the tune a musician is trying to play. I’ve been thinking allot about pianos yesterday and this morning. With mine pulled apart and pieces spread all over the dining table it’s hard not to. But it’s all for a good cause. Hopefully, once it get’s all back together again, every note except for two will be functioning! And that’s a big improvement!
This morning on my walk I was thinking of how this experience could be made into an object lesson. God brought a couple of verses to my mind.
“For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice.” Hebrews 10:26
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:12
By one man! Adam’s sin was but one but the whole course of the world was changed in an instant. So in our lives, one sin can separate us from God forever!
“All who indulge sinful traits of character, or willfully cherish a known sin, are inviting the temptations of Satan.” GC 558
Not only that, but we are to be a perfect reflection of Christ here on earth. If you think about a reflection in still water, one ripple mars the picture reflected in the water. One missing note in a tune, makes the music incomplete. One 'little' sin in your life makes the reflection of Christ defective. This is a serious matter. Ask God to search your heart and show you anything that could be keeping you from God. Then ask for power to give up that sin. He will give it to you. He wants to have you abide in Him!
God Bless you!
“Both Balaam and Judas had received great light and enjoyed special privileges, but a single cherished sin poisoned the entire character and caused their destruction....
One cherished sin will, little by little, debase the character, bringing all its nobler powers into subjection to the evil desire. The removal of one safeguard from the conscience, the indulgence of one evil habit, one neglect of the high claims of duty, breaks down the defenses of the soul and opens the way for Satan to come in and lead us astray.” (Conflict and Courage pg. 114)
have I ever... This brings back memories. :) And another thought-- One person missing makes the melody, the joy incomplete too... May that person be none of us.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to be able to match a face to another blogger friend at D&D this year. :) And a blessing to work together for young souls. I miss breakfasts with the brilliant little Morning Stars. :D
