The Wilted Flower

"For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever."
1 Peter 1:25

I have funny little habit of wearing a fresh flower in my hair. It could be any kind of flower but most likely it's a frangipani. They're are so beautiful in the simplest of ways. So symmetrical and their sweet perfume makes my nose happy. The only problem is that more often then not, by the time lunch time rolls around, the flower is wilted and sad. Dead. So much so that a friend of mine nicknamed me "The Girl with the Wilted Flower".

I was thinking about that this morning as I pinned a frangipani in my hair.  I thought about how by lunch time this flower would be dead. How great a price to pay for so short a time of enjoyment! Then this verse popped into my head. It says that all flesh is as the grass. Our lives are so short and delicate that we never know what might be just around the corner of our road. One false step or action could lead in life being over.
Just like that.
In an instant.

But God's word stands forever! He is the same: yesterday, today and forever. God never changes!

Often we read this verse and others like it and we realise how small we are. And while this is absolutely true, I think God is trying to get a different point across. I think He's trying to show us how BIG He is. He is HUGE! God is the ruler of this universe and everything else! And not only is He the ruler, and not only does He have His hand in everything that goes on, but He's the Creator. Our God is BIG! Our God is POWERFUL! Our God is MAJESTIC!

Our God is AMAZING!

And that's the lesson that the humble frangipani that's pinned in my hair taught me. How small I am, but more importantly, how BIG my God is! And do you know how wonderful it feels to be able to type "MY God"? It's one of the most amazing feelings that I've felt all day and just to know it's true fills me with a massive sense of peace.

MY God is a BIG God!
