Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, But righteousness delivers from death.
The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish: But He casts away the desire of the wicked. He who has a slack hand becomes poor: But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.
"He that sleepeth in the harvest" is a foolish son indeed and bringeth shame to his father. How many of us, in this, the golden summer of time and sleeping comfortably. All around us the fields are golden and ripe and the faithful workers cry to "the Lord of the hardest" to "send forth labourers into His harvest." (Matt 9:38)
In starless apathy the lazy, slumbering sons watch the few labourers giving their all and spending their last ounces of energy. Their cries for more workers are faint and distant. Shamefully the sleepers don't even notice the harvest falling away and perishing for lack of workers.
Friend! let this not be you! Stand up and be counted as a labourer in the Lord's field. Do not be discouraged if your part seems small and insignificant. "Whatever influence God has given you, He requires you to throw on the side of truth, of godliness. In making men, woman and children better by pointing them to the cross of calvary, you are doing the work He has given you to do." (PM69)
Wake up, go forth into the vineyard and let the Lord of the Harvest work through you. Do not waste precious moments. Don't let the best years of your life slip away. "Give your best to the Master! Throw your soul's fresh, glowing ardor into the battle for truth."
