The Katie Journey - Day Two

04/02/2013

Went back down to the yards this afternoon. For a while, Josh and I were trying to work Katie and Thunderbolt in the same yard and that really wasn't going good. While Katie is quite quiet and 'doughy' because she is in foal, Thunderbolt, our crazy brumby gelding, is not so easy-going and even after Josh had patted him for a little bit, he was still telling Katie to run away from us.
After a while, Jennie had Josh and Thunderbolt in the small yard to work together and I fed Katie some hay and just hung around her and talked because she still wasn't letting me get close enough to touch her.
When Josh had talked to Thunderbolt for a while and caught him, they came out and I took Katie into the small yard. It took a little while, but finally she let me touch her shoulder and then she stood still for quite a long time while I brushed her and played with her mane and 'bonded' with her.
I didn't catch her but when I let her out of the yard with Thunderbolt, and when we let them out into the holding paddock, she didn't want to go. I had to shoo her out!
This is going to be an exciting journey I think!
